what i really enjoy about supporting this club is observing the fans of the other three of the big four: Liverpool fans are cocky, Arsenal fans are arrogant and Chelsea fans are overconfident. Man United fans? well, since a biased opinion is definitely expected, i'll just hush up on that one, the same way i hush up every time a Liverpool fan tells me Man United will be crushed beneath their wake, only to smirk at them the next day after a 3-0 thrashing on our behalf, or when a Chelsea fan tells me United sucks and that Chelsea will be bringing the trophy back with them to London, and most of us know how that one turned out..
note: my observations are based on the people around me. maybe a nice Liverpool fan actually exists. who knows?
i watched the Champs League final with one of my closest friends who came back to Brunei from the Phils for a little holiday. the venue was my telly in the comfort of my home (i've only ever watched a United match away from home once; the Liverpool match that caught my eye and then my heart) and i gave him a lift to my house straight after work on Wednesday.
kick-off was the next day, 2:45am for us, so until then, we just bummed around with whatever my abode could offer: FIFA on the ps2, and there's always a connected computer lying about. i had a little power nap at around 11pm, then resumed the nerve-tickling countdown.
overall, it was a stellar match to watch. how close a call it was for the winners is indescribable. it was the best feeling when van der Sar blocked Anelka's penalty attempt, so great a feeling that i ripped the locks off my front door and ran laps around the outside of my house screaming to the skies. a great feeling.
oh, my mate followed and made similar loud noises as well. unfortunately, my dog thought he was chasing and attacking me, so we walked back inside to find him with a couple of holes in his leg.. oops. oh well, at least he'll remember the day he celebrated Man United's 3rd European Winning, he said.
congratulations on reeling in two major trophies this season, Manchester United! here's to more trophy success in seasons to come.
a minor tribute:
